In 1979, Bobby Z's Polka Joyland Show premiered on WNEP-TV 16 at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday evenings. The half-hour polka show was taped inside the Laurel Ballroom of the Pocono Hershey Resort. Polka fans traveled to the Poconos from surrounding states to dance to polka bands from up and down the east coast. The Kryger Brothers Orchestra were one of the top local bands that drew record viewers to our television audience. The Polka Star Dancers from New England also danced on the show in a featured segment.
According to Nielsen Saturday Night Ratings Bobby Z's Polka Joyland Show in its time slot.produced a huge spke in WNEP viewers. We were up against Hee Haw so the ratings were pretty darn good. Every so often I would play my accordion/cordovox on the show much to my delight.. Live broadcasts were occasionally held as we took the show on the road. One big event aired live from the Watres Armory in Scranton. Leo's Ziebart Auto-Truck Rustproofing of Scranton/Wilkes-Barre was our prime business sponsor. "Ziebart - It's US or RUST!"
